Bangor Aurora Fitness Instructor in Final of ukactive Awards
A fitness instructor from Bangor Aurora Aquatics & Leisure Complex has made the final stage of the ukactive Awards 2023.
Elaine Hutton, is in the running to become the winner in the Physical Activity Hero of the Year category of the ukactive Awards 2023. She will be competing with other candidates in a public vote which ends on September 22.
The ukactive Awards aim to recognise individuals who consistently stand out and have lasting positive impacts within their fitness and wellbeing fields.
Elaine has been working at the Bangor Aurora Aquatics & Leisure Complex for seven years and has gained an extensive variety of qualifications. Before she became a fully qualified instructor, she regularly attended group exercise classes at the centre.
Attending these classes helped Elaine find a passion in something she wanted to peruse full time, so she quit her job to volunteer at Aurora as a fitness instructor. After a short amount of time customers soon praised Elaine on her classes and enthusiasm and was offered a job at the site.
Elaine has received praise from representatives at Alzheimer's Society NI, for her 'Active Ageing' yoga classes she runs, which allows older people, and those with dementia to participate and exercise safely.
Lynda Williams from Alzheimer’s Society UK, said: “Elaine epitomises what it means to support and encourage people to care for themselves. She is not only approachable and caring, but she has a way of making people feel they can achieve their goals.
She also explained, “Elaine is an absolute star who makes the world a little brighter. She’s a pleasure to work with thanks to her enthusiasm, and her encouraging and determined nature. I can’t think of anyone who is a better ambassador in her field.”
