Social Value Figures For 2024

The Northern Community Leisure Trust (NCLT), in partnership with Serco Leisure, is proud to announce its impressive Social Value (SV) figures for 2024, contributing an amazing £3.9 million to the Ards and North Down Borough. This achievement highlights the essential role local leisure centres play in promoting health, wellbeing, and community connection.

How Do We Measure Social Value?

Measuring Social Value (SV) is all about capturing the fantastic ripple effects of physical and social activities on people and communities. Thanks to Moving Communities, a team backed by UK heavyweights like the Department for Culture, Media & Sport, Sport England, and the Sports Industry Research Centre, we’ve got a clever way to do it! The SV figure dives into the benefits, from boosting physical and mental health to building happier, stronger communities. It’s a brilliant way to show just how much community health and leisure initiatives matter, turning good moments into measurable impact!

A Message from Chris Kelly, NCLT Contract Manager

Chris Kelly, the Contract Manager for NCLT, emphasised the significance of these figures:

"These impressive SV numbers underscore the critical role local leisure centres play in promoting health and wellbeing within the community."

“The NCLT remains dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Ards and North Down through its facilities and partnerships. This achievement of £3.9 million in Social Value is not just a financial measurement; it represents the collective effort of staff, community members, and partners working together to create a healthier, happier, and more connected community."

“We invite local residents, community leaders, and health organisations to support NCLT in its mission to continue providing essential health and wellness services. Together, we can build a resilient community that prioritises health and wellbeing for all"

The Role of Social Value in Community Health

With mounting pressures on the health service, the importance of proactive wellbeing initiatives has never been greater. The £3.9 million Social Value generated by NCLT in 2024 shows the benefits of its programmes and services in several key areas:

·        Increased Physical Activity - By offering diverse and inclusive fitness programmes, NCLT enables residents of all ages to engage in regular exercise, leading to better health outcomes and reduced healthcare costs.

·        Mental Wellbeing Initiatives - Through activities that promote social interaction, reduce isolation, and foster community cohesion, the Trust addresses mental health needs across the borough.

·        Health Education and Awareness - NCLT runs workshops and health campaigns that empower residents with knowledge about healthy lifestyles, nutrition, and overall wellness.

·        Youth Engagement - The Trust’s youth programmes instil healthy habits in the next generation, setting the foundation for a healthier future.

Facilities at the Heart of the Community

NCLT, in collaboration with Serco Leisure, manages three key facilities in the region, Bangor Aurora, Bangor Sportsplex, and Queens Leisure Complex. Together, these centres serve as hubs for physical activity, health education, and community engagement in Ards and North Down.

Join the Mission to Build a Healthier Community

This remarkable achievement is a testament to the power of partnership and the dedication of the community. NCLT invites residents, local leaders, and organisations to support its mission of fostering health and wellbeing. Together, we can create a stronger, more resilient borough.
